History

In the late nineteenth century Italy, day-long "challenge" sports became popular. Participants aimed to cover as much distance as possible and prove themselves audax ("audacious").^[1] The first recorded audax cycling event took place on June 12, 1897, twelve Italian cyclists attempted the challenge of cycling from Rome to Naples, a distance of 230 km, during daylight hours. Similar events became popular elsewhere, and in 1904 French journalist Henri Desgrange produced Audax regulations, which belonged to his Auto newspaper.

Under the Audax regulations, riders rode as a group. Successful riders were awarded a certificate called a Brevet d'Audax. A group of successful audax cyclists formed the Audax Club Parisien (ACP), which took over the organisation of Audax events on Desgrange's behalf. In 1920, there was a disagreement between Desgrange and the ACP. Desgrange withdrew ACP's permission to organise events under his Audax regulations, and ACP created its own allure libre (free-paced) version of the sport, where successful riders were awarded certificates called Brevets des Randonneurs. Desgrange continued to promote the original Audax rules, and on July 14, 1921 the Union of Parisian Audax Cyclistes (UACP) was formed, which became the Union of French Audax in January 1956.^[2]

The original form of the audax style involves riding in strict group formation at a steady pace set by a road captain. The group attempts to maintain a pace of 22.5 km/h between stops. The route is pre-planned with designated stopping points. For longer audax events the group may ride between 16 and 20 hours in a day before stopping at a designated sleeping location. The goal of the audax is to finish inside the prescribed time limit with all members of the group present. A support vehicle is allowed to follow each group of riders.^{[citation needed]}

Randonneuring is similar to the original Audax style in that riders attempt to complete long-distance cycling events. However, instead of riding together in a group, participants are free to cycle at their own pace (French: allure libre), stop or sleep wherever they want and form groups randomly, provided they stay within the time limit.

In some countries (e.g. USA), a clear distinction is drawn between 'Audax' and 'Randonneuring'. In others, such as Australia and Great Britain, the original Audax style is relatively unknown, and 'Audax' and 'Randonneuring' are used interchangeably.

On June 12, 1897, twelve Italian cyclists were trying to raid the group Rome-Naples, 230 km, between sunrise and sunset. Nine succeeded, their attempt was described as bold, "Audax", Latin translation of daring qualifier. This name was taken to mean the bicyclist makes 200 km between sunrise and sunset. 

In 1904, Henri Desgrange, already the father of the Tour de France, attracted by this formula and wanting to revive the sport touring bike such matter walking group in France and created the "French Audax". On 3 April of that year held the first patent of 200 Km cycling. Soon these daring riders stretched distances and thus in 1905 was organized the first 300 km and a 400 km in 1908, a 600 km in 1922, a 1,000 km in 1929 and finally the first Paris-Brest- Paris Audax in 1931.

These cycling events, referred to as "patents" as a diploma is awarded to participants, have always had a success rate of participants very high, proving that the group behavior facilitates the achievement of long-distance patents. Since 1904 patent of 200 km are numbered, the last number issued in 2007 is 182,937. 

In 1951 was created the Golden Eagle, the highest award Audax cyclists. This award is given to those who have done, without time limitation, patents Audax 200, 300, 400, 600, 1,000 km Paris-Brest-Paris, and a second patent long distance (1,000 km or Paris-Brest -Paris). 
All of these patents and awards which originated at the time of the creation of the modern Olympics not addressed, because of the distances involved, as adult sportsmen.

 
The Union of French Audax has decided to create a series of patents to speed driving, and intended only for the young, evolving over distances of 20 to 200 km awarded the titles of Aiglon bronze (20, 30 and 40 km) of Aiglon money (50, 60 and 70 km) and Golden Eaglet (80, 140 and 200 km). The Golden Eaglet Award, which the owner can be proud of as Audax, not having realized that getting the whole series from 20 to 200 km. 

This increase is intended to bring surely and with minimal effort, under Audax and access control of the long distance. Indeed, it is no coincidence that two of three winners of the first european diagonals, I named Calais-Brindisi or Malle des Indes, are golden eagles and one in ten is a member of Union of French Audax.

What is necessary to get an Audax Patent

• The participant must finished the Audax Ride successfully during the required time.
• Lombok Audax has to send the data of the successful participants to Audax Indonesia.
• Audax Indonesia will send the data of all successful participants to UAF.

• You have to ask Audax Indonesia to get the patent. It cannot be issued by Lombok Audax.
• For the Golden Eagle of UAF you have to ask L'Union des Audax Francaise.

Generally: Every Audax Event Organizer who is member of L'Union des Audax Indonesia (UAI) - Audax Indonesia - has to send the data of all successful finishers to Audax Indonesia after the  Audax Event immediately.

How to get an Audax Patent?

You cannot get an Audax Patent from Lombok Audax. Patents you can get only from

• For the Golden Eagle of UAF contact also L'Union Audax Indonesia

For the attention of our leaders organizers and participants, the time they are homologated for patents are:

In the case of a patent large distance (1,000 km or more) 
may count towards a second 1000 km for the award of a Golden Eagle, 
the first 400 km should be traveled in time to a 400, 
that is to say 26 hours - 26 h 30.

History of Audax

Audax are not races. Audax is non-competitive, time-limited long distance cycling. The term 'audax', meaning audacious, is given to a movement which starts in 1897 when a group of Italian cyclists rode 200km between sunrise and sunset and became known as "les Audacieux". These days classic ride lengths are 200, 300, 400 and 600km or also longer rides are possible, up to 3.200 km. The most famous Audax Paris – Brest – Paris (PBP) about 1.200 km. It will be arranged every 5 years by UAF and every 4 years by ACP. Last last one was 2011 organized by both Audax Organisiations.. Audax events aren’t races, they're are undertaken with the aim of completing the event within a given time. We ride the course in average speed of 22,5 km/h.  During the ride we have round about all 50 km a stop where you can eat and drink and if its necessary during long distances, where you can sleep. After the “closing time” of a stop we will start together to the next stop.

For the riders:

• Helmet and gloves are mandatory.
• Your bike must be in a good condition it is your responsibility to ensure that the bike for any damage has been studied before the ride.
• Tires, hoses, brakes, breakpads, brakes, must be in a good condition.
• Your bike must have both front and rear light.
• Light must be turned on in rain and at dusk and darkness.
• You wear bright clothing, possibly reflective strips, to good to be seen.
• Do not go alone. Continue in the group or with a guide.
• Be careful when driving through towns and villages. Take care of children and as well as on dogs, cats, chickens, cows and goats.
• Always keep enough safety margin, particularly at  or in the dark or in the dusk.
• Continue whenever it is possible, not side by side, but in a series in a row.
• Make the cyclists attentive by show of hands on obstacles.

• • Where do the event start up?
  • The event starts in Lombok Klui - in front of Holiday-Resort. The Start is at 5:45 am

• • Do the participants go to Lombok alone or must go together with the other participants?
  • The location of the event is Lombok NTB. How you will come is your decision.
  • Everyone can travel alone - when ever he want´s do it.

• • Is the number of participants limited?
  • Yes the number of participants is limited to 111, because we dont have enough rooms in Kuta

• • How much is the entry  fee of Lombok Audax 2012?

• • Is the accomodation already included in the fee of Lombok Audax?
  • Yes, 3 nigts are included. One before the event in Holiday Resort in Senggigi, one night during the event in Kuta and one night after the event in Holiday Resort again.  Not only the accomodation is included, also snacks and drinks during the event, 2 x lunch, 1 dinner in Kuta and the Dinner with  Finisher Celebration after the event in Holiday  Resort.

• • If we stay one night in Kuta, we have to check out in Holiday Resort?Resort.
  • On Saturday Morning you have to check out and after the evet you have to check in again.

• • Who carries our luggage to Kuta?
  • We will carry your luggage to Kuta.  The things you don´t need you can leave in Holiday Resort in a separate room.  On Sunday we will carry your luggage back to Holiday Resort.

• • Can I bring my family to Lombok?
  • Yes, you can also come with your family. The Holiday Resort is located directly on the beach and offers many opportunities for recreation. Excursions to the nearby Gili Islands are possible and many other activities.

• • Can my family accompany me at the Audax?
  • Yes, but we will not put up vehicle available. They must arrange this yourself. We are happy to assist you in this, however.

• • Support vehicles are permitted at Audax?
  • Yes, but it is expected that participants will not be hindered. If this were the case, we can excluse you after a warning. 

• • If my family stays during the Audax at Holiday Resort, which is observed?
  • In Audax price is a night in Kuta from Saturday to Sunday included. If your family does not accompany you and wants to stay the night at the Holiday Resort, then one additional night must be booked.

• • To save costs, I would like to share with someone else's room. Do you arrange these participants?
  • No, we don´t arrange it. You must do it by yourself.

• • Is there any supported by the mechanical team?
  • Yes, during the event a technican is going with us.

• • Is there any supported by the medical team?
  • Yes, an ambulance car and Doctor will go with us.

• • When do the last date for registration?
  • The last date for registration is the 31 of December. But it´s recommended to register earlier, because the number of participants is limited

• • Is there any technical meeting before the event? In which City?
  • On Friday night 8 pm will be a briefing.

• • What is the minimum/maximum age of participant?
  • We have no limit. Most important is, that the participants are healthy.

• • Is there any facility to assemble the bike and then packing again?
  • You can book a technican for assembly and packing. The fee will be IDR 100.000 per bike.

• • When do you suggest us to come to Lombok?
  • We recommend to come to Lombok that you arrive at least in the afternoon. If you will come with the last flight, you will be in the Hotel round about at midnight.  The Check-In time is until 10 pm.

• • How do we bring the bicycle to Lombok?
  • it´s jpossible to cary your bike in the plane. The limit is not the size, it´s the total weight of your luggage incl. bicycle.

• • How much the hotel costs if we want to extend staying at the Holiday Resort?

• • Can use a mountain bike or is a road bike necessary?
